Glendale HVAC rebates can help eligible homeowners pay for a qualifying heat pump. Cool Climate explains the current incentives, the code requirements and the equipment choices before you plan a replacement.
Glendale Water & Power offers residential rebates to its customers. Replacing gas or gas/electric HVAC with an ENERGY STAR heat pump can qualify for $1,000 per ton, up to $5,000. Replacing an existing heat pump can qualify for $500 per ton, up to $2,500.
Glendale’s reach code covers AC installs, alterations and replacements in single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes. It calls for a heat pump or a new AC with efficiency upgrades; repairs are exempt. State approval decides when it takes effect.

A paired panel upgrade can add $1,000. Apply within 12 months of purchase. GWP allows one heat pump rebate per story (or per room for ductless) every 10 years.
Exceptions cover limited panel capacity and heat pumps oversized by more than 12,000 Btu/h. The start date waits for the Building Standards Commission and Energy Commission.
Replacing home HVAC equipment needs a permit, and most homes also need independent HERS/ECC verification of set energy-code items.
New systems now use lower-GWP refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32. EPA sets the transition dates and has revised some, so we confirm what applies.
Do I get $1,000 per ton for any heat pump?
No. That GWP rebate is for ENERGY STAR heat pumps that replace gas or gas/electric HVAC, up to $5,000.
What if I already have a heat pump?
Replacing it may qualify for $500 per ton, up to $2,500. GWP decides eligibility under its current rules.
Does Glendale require a heat pump for every AC replacement?
No. The code also allows a new AC with efficiency upgrades, and it has exceptions. Its start date waits for state approval.
Do older systems need a refrigerant change now?
No. Existing systems can still be serviced with compatible refrigerant. The new rules apply to new systems.
